The SeptiCyte® technology is based on a broad patent estate of immune system gene expression and gene expression products which act as biomarkers for the diagnosis and continuous monitoring of sepsis and other immune disorders.

Athlomics's first multiplex molecular product, SeptiCyte® Lab, was launched in June, 2010 in kit format for qRT-PCR platforms. The kit is currently supplied to our first customer Mater Pathology in Brisbane, Australia.

The advantages of SeptiCyte® Lab for sepsis management are:

Immuno-pathologically informative:  SeptiCyte® Lab is the first sepsis test to fully instruct clinicians on the immuno-pathology of disease

Early diagnostic: faster and higher performing than existing sepsis diagnostic tests

Useful for regular monitoring: for personalized management of at-risk and sepsis patients. Athlomics's clinical trials to date suggest that host response is more instructive than pathogen detection for personalized management of sepsis, even in respect of early infection detection.

Severe sepsis is one of the leading causes of death in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and after surgery.

In 2008, the mortality of severe sepsis in the US was about 27% and that of septic shock was about 45%.

It is well accepted that better clinical outcomes are achieved when treatment is begun immediately after diagnosis.  Babies, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are most likely to get sepsis.
